Never Stop Improving

Posted by Shane in Blogging

This week I have been carefully relearning all the scripting languages I know. I started with xhtml/css and I was so surprised about how much I had forgotten and how some of it had changed, everything improves and changes even when we think we have mastered it. This started me thinking, “How can I use this in blogging?”, then it hit me!

Lightbulb moment

The Audience

Yes, you! Many bloggers find a style and subject that suits them and always uses it. This is good, but the readers will soon get bored. So even if a blog has thousands of readers, it may be a good idea to every so often have a change of style so that the audience does not stop reading the blog as much. A lot of people blog about areas that they know about, but if they do not always keep up to date with it they may run out of information to talk about, or maybe post about things that are very out of date.
So ways to improve what you post would include:

  • Know the most up to date information about what you are talking about, or it may not be very useful.
  • Compare new advancements with ones posted about in previous posts.
  • Ask the readers how you could improve

They are just a few examples, though I am sure you could think of hundreds of other ideas.

Design

PainterAn amazing way to improve the readers attention and introduce new members is to, as Darren Rowse has proven in the last year with ProBlogger.net, redesign the blog. This does not need to be very often, but with advancements in scripting and new “design fashions”, it is a good idea to produce a new amazing blog design. This is a good thing to do even if you already have a massive audience and an amazing design.

In the up and coming weeks I shall be writing a very long post, or maybe a series, about Blog Design so I shall not go into any more detail right now.

I hope you found this useful,
Shane Hudson

Make Money Without Leaving Your Room!

Posted by Shannon Lilly in Blogging, Making Money

Do you believe its impossible to actually make a income online through blogging or affiliate sales? I am here to reassure you that it is possible and if you keep your nose to the grind stone you will reap the benefits in the long run.

People like yourself often get into blogging or other means of making money online and they forget or never look at the rule of thumb, working hard is what pays off in the long run. If your not a determined hard worker in the short term you may see a boost of sales or jobs coming in. After some time though when someone else comes along who is cheaper and better then you they may take your business and clients without even trying. However if you stick to it and keep digging in deeper and deeper you will never be replaced!

So that leaves us with what my reasoning for this post is. Well to put it bluntly I am tired of all the flyby bloggers who think they are going to strike it rich overnight. You know who you are, its time to get to work and start making money online!

Alright I am done with my short pep talk! GET TO WORK!

Draw Readers Attention to Increase Signups

Posted by Shannon Lilly in Blogging, Lounge

If you haven’t noticed the rather large sign-up image to the right of your screen perhaps you do now? I put this on the site for 1 simple reason, it draws readers attention to it in the hopes that they sign-up to our awesome blog!

You can do your part by signing up as well, don’t hesitate because monthly we pick a winner to take home $25.00! ITS FREE CASH!

So today I want to talk about drawing the readers attention to a specific part of a website. Believe it or not us humans are not perfect so we need to figure out (learn) what the hot spots of our blogs are so we can populate those sections with ads or places for our readers to sign-up to our blog.

Hot Spots Program

There is a program out there that does this for you its called CrazyEgg and its excellent for discovering exactly what the hot spots on your blog are.

It creates a heat map for where the visitors mouse is more then other areas. It helps you pin point words and full advert sections that are hit the most on your blog already.

Its not overly difficult to understand and I encourage everyone to at least try it out. This is not a paid review either its because I believe in this program and want everyone to try it!

The Oldschool Way

Now that program is all well and fine but its not really that great for anything more then finding out what your blog is already doing right. What about the things your doing wrong or not at all? Well this is where we turn to ourselves and say “DO SOMETHING”.

We need to figure out what the best spots are on any and every blog to effectively make money online. I have found that just below the header is a great spot to put either affiliate ads or adsense. This spot is what users usually see first as we all read from “Top Left” to “Bottom Right”.

Knowing that we read from the top left down the top left spot is obviously going to yield excellent results if we put ads there. But what about using it to increase sign-ups, not everyone will take the risk of putting a huge blatant image on there blogs telling people to sign-up as we have here on POB.

Blogging is all about experimenting and I hope this post triggers you to look at your blog through a new set of eyes. See what works and what doesn’t over time, keep what works and eliminate what doesn’t so you can get the most out of your blog! GO MAKE SOME MONEY!
